A Scandi feel of warmth, simplicity, and connection.

It’s no secret we love all things cozy and light. We love a moment to connect with those we love over a steamy cup of coffee and a night spent laughing over dinner by candlelight. We love to create intentional moments to savor and sink into the moment. The danish art of hygee, pronounced hooga, does exactly this. This is one beautiful concept I brought home from my study abroad in Amsterdam and, of course, a deep love for coffee. As I type this note to you, I am bundled in my newest jumper with a steamy cup of local coffee and a candle dancing. I am off to our favorite store, Hygee Life, in Vail, CO for a few Christmas gifts and plenty of candles for the season. They have the most darling coffee shop with European sweets, candles on every table, and an abundance of hygee books!

This year for the Christmas season, I am creating intentional moments to connect with those I love. After an especially social distant year, I value deep connection more than ever. At home, we are creating these moments by keeping our holiday decor simple. We are decorating with a real tree, plenty of twinkle lights, garland, and all of the candles. If you’re looking to add warmth to your home, try setting a blanket atop the sofa for a warm moment to read, light a breakfast candle on the island, and invite those you love to join you for connection around the kitchen table. This holiday season we are so grateful to have those we love around our Alpine Table. We cannot wait to simmer a batch of Athena Caldron’s Pork Ragu from her Cookbook, Cook Beautiful, and an accompanying Blood Orange Cake. This dish simmers all day long in the dutch oven, making your home smell heavenly, and leaving you available to talk and laugh and create memories.
